The Senator representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, Babangida Hussani (APC) has commended the returns of tollgate to Nigeria federal roads,says apart from providing security architecture that house security to monitor the vehicles that ply the roads, the nature of goods, it is a vital tool for economic development.
Senator Babangida Hussani make the submission while addressing journalists in his office at National Assembly immediately after his engagement at the appropriation committee of the senate, earlier today.
“Tollgate provides you the opportunity to house your security to monitor the types of vehicles, number of vehicles that ply the roads, tthereby helping to know the fuel consumption nationally, the data generated is a vital instrument for economic growth.”
“Recall, there was this initiative introduced by the immediate past minister of works, Raji Babatunde Fasola which introduced the High Way Development Management Initiative Initiated to construct federal roads across the country.
“The concessioner will be responsible for the maintenance of the roads , and be in charge of the management and collection of tolls. And we have a clear categorization of tolls on the road with highest being five hundred (500) and the lowest being one hundred (100) Naira.
Earlier while addressing the committee, Senator Babangida Hussani spoke on road’s culture and safety highlighting bridges, goods, hollages, speed limit, and the enforcement of the High Way Court.
He also spoke about maintenance, rehabilitation and the need to separate and have a clear demarcation of responsibilities between Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA.
