UN AGENDA 2030:SDG NATIONAL COUNCIL VISITS DG CHINA GENERAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, NIGERIA; SEEKS COLLABORATION FOR OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND YOUTHS

In a move to bridge the gap between students, youths and the private sector, The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) National Students Council (Office Of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria) led by its National Coordinator, Amb Timothy Nwachukwu, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the China General Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria, Dr. Tristan Cui, at the Chambers’ Abuja office. The visit was part of the global effort to promote the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its 17 key goals aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all.

The SDGs National Students Council, has the mandate to sensitise, engage and Mobilse students and youths across Nigeria’s Educational institutions towards the localisation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During the meeting, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu, in his address, highlighted the SDGs’ mission and objectives, stressing the need for public-private partnerships in achieving the global goals. He expressed the Council’s desire to collaborate with the China General Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria, to create opportunities for Nigerian students and youths in areas of education, skill development, entrepreneurship, internship, and job placements.

“We believe that the China General Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria, with the class of Chinese businesses it represents, can play a pivotal role in helping us achieve our objectives. We want to expose Nigerian Students and Youths to the opportunities available in the Chinese business environment and create platforms where they can develop relevant skills, gain work experience, and eventually secure jobs,” Amb. Nwachukwu stated.

In response, DG Tristan Cui commended the laudable initiative of the SDGs National Students Council and expressed the Chamber’s willingness to collaborate. “The China General Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria, is committed to promoting bilateral economic development between China and Nigeria. We recognize the significance of youth empowerment in this regard, as they are the drivers of sustainable growth. We will explore avenues for scholarships, internships, and job opportunities for eligible Nigerian students and youths, in line with your objectives,” Cui assured.
