This devotional is the second series of the 21, February. A write up on fear published by goodmanproject.com has this to say on fear: “Our lives are filled with fear and if you take a close look, every decision we make from life-changing to small is often tinged with fear. There is nothing wrong with feeling fear that is normal. Indeed allowing fear to take control of your life means that you will never actually live your life” (author unknown). This quote points at what negative fear does to mankind. Allowing negative fear takes control of every decision we take will definitely stop us from living a useful life. In this devotional, a quick survey of what comes upon us if we allow bad fear, negative fear, fear that torments live etc., will be done. Many human beings died and took their accomplishment and destiny to the grave because of unfounded fear. A look at very few consequences of fear:

FEAR TORMENTS: This means fear distresses a man, fills a man with anguish, makes one restless and uneasy. Fear also keeps human beings in slavery. Fear subjects human beings to bondage as long as they live. This is why those who patronize prophets who give their members fearful revelations always hold them bond to themselves. Reason 1 John 4: 18 says fear is a torment.

FEAR MAKES ONE DENIES JESUS: It was because of fear that Peter denied Jesus Matt. 26: 69 – 75). The moment one denies Jesus; his or her claiming Christian is cancelled. We might not have the grace of Peter who Jesus forgave him.

FEAR BLOCK OUR EYES FROM GOD’S FAVOUR: God, right from the time of Abraham, promised Israelites the Land of Canaan. Moses sent ten spies to go and see what the Land looks and contained. Eight of the spies saw giant enemies and concluded the land cannot be occupied except Caleb and Joshua (Num. 13: 27, 29, 31, 33). By fear the eight men made up their minds to forego the land. But the encouraging words of Caleb and Joshua made the Israelites to possess the land till date.

FEAR BRINGS GOD’S DESTRUCTION: When we fear people or situation and think God might not save, He can destroy us. Fearing anything more than God means we are magnifying that thing above God. Because of this fearful report of the eight spies that the enemies in Canaan were mightier than the Israelites, God killed them with other fearful Israelites’ males from age 20 years and above so that they will not get to the Promised Land (Num. 14: 29 – 30).

FEAR MAGNIFIES PROBLEMS ABOVE GOD: Many of us magnify our problems above God’s ability. In so doing we run to idol worshippers. This usually makes us go against God’s commandments. He said we should not bow our heads to any graven image (Lev. 26: 1). Fear caused King Saul to go consulting the witch at Endor (1 Sam. 28: 7-8) in order to know his fate. He lost out with God because of this action.

Today, I don’t know what fear is doing to you. I don’t equally know where fear has taken you to. The aim of this devotional is to call you back from extreme fears in life. Our God is able to see you through any danger. Those enemies you are sore afraid of today will be dealt with before tomorrow in Jesus name. Do not allow your strength to fail you in the days of your adversities. God is ever ready to fight your battles.

PRAYERS:

1. Father, rekindle my trust in you in the days of danger in Jesus name.
2. As you did to the early Apostles of Jesus Christ in Acts 4: 29, grant me Spiritual boldness to face my enemies in Jesus name.

POSITIVE CONFESSION

I know that God’s rod and staff are protecting me everywhere I go.
