The Executive Chairman of Ezza North Local Government Area, Chief Ogodo-Ali Nome has said that before the construction Coco Onicha bridge, that the people of the area find it difficult to return home due to bad road and the non-construction bridges in communities and villages of the area.

Ogodo Ali, who spoke to journalists in Ebiaji, the capital of Ezza North local government area, noted that since the construction of the bridge, the people of the area can now come home and develop the state.

The council chairman used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements he has made in the office as a council chairman, including the building concrete roads, bridges, boreholes, renovation of the magistrate court, and building of classroom blocks with headmaster quarters, among others.

He commended the governor for his innovative leadership and urged the Ebonyi people to continue to support him.

He said, “The last bridge we have just completed. We built this similar bridge, five along the other road going to Ebonyi. We started that one on the 15th of February and finished it in May, 2025. Along with the two-kilometre concrete pavement road, I just showed you as we are passing the local government.

“This is the last bridge we did, the fifth bridge we did this year. It’s called the Coco Onicha Bridge. This bridge is very important to our people, to the people of this community, the Ogboji community.

“Because there are several pooling units there and many economic mineral deposits. From here you are looking at the quarry, the giant crusher there. There is a bale of limestone lying from the main road there down to the other main road.

“People cannot come in to build their houses. We believe that after this bridge we are building, our people will start coming home to develop the place. Many of our people are rich, but they are outside there because they cannot even go to their compound.

“There are about three giant crushers that are there from the other road. But you see because of the new road here, this is going to be the major road taking them out from the hinterland to the town. There are four bridges. I can’t know their different names. But there are four bridges we did this year.

“We are building another bridge of this size. We are building six classrooms, six blocks of three classrooms and three master’s offices. In six different schools in the local government.

“I just showed you three classrooms we are building in my alma mater school. Because they say charity begins at home. When I came on board, that school was in a very sorry state. But you can see the nature it is now. And we had plans to extend the bridge to so many communities.

“Without a road, you cannot do water pumps. You cannot do carbon water. You cannot do electricity. And it is difficult for any individual to get money and start building roads and bridges”, he said.
