FG Backs AFRIDEX 2026, Pushes Collaboration, Innovation in Defence Sector

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and driving innovation in Nigeria’s defence and security architecture, as preparations intensify for the African International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026.

 

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo according to a  press release e-signed by the ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mary Ali made the declaration during a high-level meeting with organisers of AFRIDEX 2026 at his office in Abuja, stressing that national progress in security can only be achieved through partnerships rather than isolated institutional efforts.

 

Describing AFRIDEX as “a very special programme,” the Minister emphasized the need for openness and synergy among institutions to maximise national impact.

 

“Meaningful progress within Nigeria’s defence and security architecture can only be achieved through collaboration rather than isolated efforts,” Tunji-Ojo said.

 

The Minister commended the initiative as a critical platform for showcasing innovation, particularly among Nigerian youths excelling in digital and cybersecurity fields.

He noted that giving visibility to local talent would not only boost national pride but also enhance economic growth and global competitiveness.

“Providing visibility for such talents is essential for national pride, economic advancement, and global competitiveness,” he stated.

 

Tunji-Ojo also underscored the importance of research in national development, calling for stronger connections between innovators, manufacturers, and investors to ensure that ideas translate into real economic value.

 

He urged organisers to sustain AFRIDEX as an annual event, noting that initial challenges would provide valuable lessons for future editions.

 

“This is not a time for territorial thinking, but for collective progress,” the Minister added.

 

On logistics, the Minister acknowledged ongoing improvements in visa processing and recommended the creation of a dedicated support desk to facilitate seamless entry for international participants expected at the event.

 

He reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to support the initiative, describing it as one that represents “the future, not just the present.”

Earlier,Umar Alkali who led the delegation, formally introduced AFRIDEX as a premier global defence and security exhibition scheduled to hold from October 26 to 29, 2026, at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.

 

The event, organised with the support of the Federal Government and hosted by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), is expected to attract over 30,000 participants and 500 exhibitors from across the world.

 

“The exhibition will bring together global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and innovators to showcase cutting-edge solutions,” Alkali said.

 

He highlighted the critical role of the Ministry of Interior in ensuring the success of the event, particularly in areas of security coordination and visa facilitation, while formally inviting the Minister to participate.

 

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to partnership and a shared vision of positioning Nigeria as a global hub for defence innovation and security solutions.
