The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a major step toward modernising law enforcement operations with the successful conclusion of the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop, a landmark gathering focused on advancing innovation, governance, and the responsible deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policing.

The development was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on June 4, 2026.

The workshop, which ended on Wednesday in Abuja, brought together top law enforcement officials, technology experts, policymakers, and international partners to explore the transformative role of AI in enhancing security operations, improving policing efficiency, and strengthening public trust.

Delivering remarks at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, underscored the growing significance of artificial intelligence in modern security management, noting that AI has moved beyond theoretical discussions and is already reshaping law enforcement systems across the world.

“The conversations at this workshop reinforced a simple but urgent truth: artificial intelligence is no longer something to prepare for in the distant future—it is already reshaping how security agencies operate around the world,” the IGP said.

Participants at the workshop examined practical applications of AI in crime prevention, intelligence gathering, investigations, surveillance, and operational decision-making. They also deliberated on governance frameworks, ethical considerations, and strategies for ensuring the responsible adoption of emerging technologies within law enforcement institutions.

A major highlight of the dialogue was a presentation on the outcomes of the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, where Nigeria was identified as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot Programme—an initiative aimed at promoting the strategic use of artificial intelligence to address security challenges across the continent.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to draw lessons from international best practices while identifying pathways for integrating innovative technologies into Nigeria’s policing architecture.

The Inspector-General expressed appreciation to participants, facilitators, experts, and development partners for their contributions to the success of the dialogue, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to embracing technology-driven solutions capable of enhancing public safety and operational effectiveness.

He urged participants to translate the knowledge acquired during the workshop into practical reforms within their respective commands and departments.

“Participants were encouraged not to allow the knowledge gained remain within the conference room but to take it back to their formations and transform it into actionable initiatives that will improve policing outcomes,” the statement noted.

The Force emphasized that the AI-POL Leadership Dialogue forms part of broader efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a modern, accountable, and technology-driven institution capable of responding effectively to emerging security threats in an increasingly digital world.

The Nigeria Police Force also reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with local and international stakeholders in advancing innovation and building safer communities through responsible technology adoption.

The workshop is widely seen as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward integrating artificial intelligence into law enforcement while balancing innovation with accountability, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights.
