The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with faith-based organisations as part of efforts to strengthen national security, promote peaceful coexistence and advance sustainable national development across the country.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, led by Most Reverend Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, CON, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

The disclosure was contained in a press release issued by the Federal Ministry of Interior and signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Mary Ali, ANIPR, on June 30, 2026.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Tunji-Ojo said Nigeria had made remarkable progress over the years, noting that the country has advanced significantly compared to where it stood four decades ago.

He stressed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to nation-building through inclusive governance, strategic reforms and strengthened internal security.

The Minister underscored the importance of working closely with religious institutions, describing them as critical partners in promoting peace, national unity and social cohesion.

“The government cannot achieve sustainable national development without the active support of critical stakeholders,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

According to him, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in areas of mutual interest, particularly national security, good governance, social cohesion and initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence.

Responding, the leader of the delegation, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, commended the Federal Government for what he described as its responsiveness to issues affecting the Church, especially the Catholic Church.

He also praised the Ministry of Interior for maintaining an open-door policy and encouraging constructive engagement with religious stakeholders.

Bishop Kukah reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to promote national security, support sound public policies and advance initiatives that foster peace, justice, unity and national development.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to sustain meaningful engagement with faith-based organisations and other key stakeholders in driving the nation’s development agenda.

He expressed confidence that stronger partnerships between government and religious institutions would further consolidate peace, strengthen national cohesion and contribute to lasting socio-economic development across Nigeria.
