Osun Poll: Police Deploy CP Samuel Etaifo to Lead Election Security Operations
…directs personnel to maintain neutrality, professionalism as Force steps up preparations for the election

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Commissioner of Police (Elections) for Osun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, as part of efforts to guarantee a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process.
The deployment, the Force said, forms part of its comprehensive election security strategy aimed at protecting voters, electoral officials, election materials and other critical assets throughout the electoral exercise.
The announcement was contained in a press statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, anipr, on July 31, 2026.
According to the statement, CP Etaifo will coordinate and supervise all election security operations across Osun State while working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free governorship election.
“The deployment is part of the Force’s comprehensive election security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process,” the statement said.
The Force clarified that the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, will remain in charge of the state command and continue to oversee routine policing activities while providing the required administrative and operational support to the Commissioner of Police (Elections).
The Police also reminded officers and personnel deployed for election duties to conduct themselves professionally and remain politically neutral throughout the exercise.
“Personnel deployed for election duties are reminded to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and strict compliance with the law, including the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty,” the statement added.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, called on residents of Osun State, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to support security agencies by remaining peaceful and law-abiding before, during and after the election.
“The Inspector-General of Police urges members of the public, political actors, and all stakeholders to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and to cooperate fully with security agencies in ensuring a safe, credible, and successful electoral process,” the statement said.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to providing adequate security for the election and ensuring that the democratic process is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, fairness and public confidence.
