The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on Tuesday officially commenced the Physical Bootcamp for the maiden edition of its Technology Innovation Challenge (TIC) 2026, marking a significant milestone in the Board’s drive to nurture homegrown technologies and deepen local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The bootcamp, which opened at the Conference Room, 4th Floor, Nigerian Content Tower, Yenagoa, brings together shortlisted innovators, technology developers, startups, researchers and industry experts for an intensive programme designed to refine innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions capable of addressing critical challenges across the petroleum value chain.
The Technology Innovation Challenge is one of NCDMB’s flagship initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem by identifying, mentoring and supporting indigenous technologies with the potential to transform operations in the oil and gas sector while creating employment, promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing the country’s technological competitiveness.
Participants at the physical bootcamp are expected to undergo rigorous training sessions, technical mentorship, business development coaching, product validation exercises and investor engagement activities to prepare them for the next stages of the competition.
The programme is also designed to expose innovators to industry best practices in technology development, commercialization, intellectual property management, product scalability, market readiness and investment opportunities.
According to the Board, the initiative aligns with the objectives of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010, which seeks to promote the development of indigenous capacity, encourage value addition and increase the participation of Nigerian companies and professionals across the oil and gas value chain.
Industry experts participating in the bootcamp are expected to guide innovators on developing practical solutions capable of addressing operational challenges in areas such as digital transformation, process optimisation, asset integrity, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, automation and emerging technologies relevant to Nigeria’s energy sector.
The maiden edition of the Technology Innovation Challenge underscores NCDMB’s commitment to building a vibrant innovation ecosystem that supports research, technology commercialization and sustainable industrial development.
Beyond the competition, the initiative is expected to create stronger collaboration among academia, technology startups, research institutions, investors and industry operators, thereby accelerating the adoption of indigenous technologies capable of reducing dependence on imported solutions.
The physical bootcamp represents a crucial stage in the Technology Innovation Challenge, where participants will further develop their concepts under the guidance of experienced mentors before progressing to subsequent phases of the programme.
Stakeholders have described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s knowledge economy, noting that innovation and technology remain critical drivers of industrial growth, competitiveness and long-term energy security.
With the commencement of the bootcamp in Yenagoa, NCDMB has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovation as a key pillar of Nigerian content development, positioning indigenous innovators to contribute meaningfully to the transformation and sustainability of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
