Ado Local Government Chairman Graced Ebonyi Senator’s Empowerment Initiative

Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche, Chairman of Ado Local Government Council recently attended the Annual Thanksgiving and Empowerment Initiative of Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi in Ebonyi State. The event, held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Mbeke Ishieke, marked the third year of this impactful community program and the second since Senator Nwebonyi’s election to the Senate.
The ceremony, chaired by Chief G.O. Ogbaga, OON, former minister for Power and Steel featured a mass officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Abakiliki, Most Rev. Dr. Peter N. Chukwu. The event was further distinguished by the presence of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Bldr, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI, GGCEHF who witnessed the flag-off ceremony conducted by Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche.
Senator Nwebonyi’s initiative focuses on expressing gratitude for his service and giving back to his constituents in Ebonyi North Senatorial District. This year’s distribution included fourteen minibuses, one hundred motorcycles, twenty tricycles, and two hundred grinding machines. Senator Nwebonyi emphasized that these items are not for resale but tools for wealth creation and community upliftment, implementing a monitoring scheme to ensure their judicious use. He also highlighted ongoing food palliative and farm input distribution programs throughout the year.
A significant element of the initiative is a planned road project linking Ugbenyim through Ijigbam, connecting Benue and Ebonyi States, a partnership with Ado Local Government Council expected to reduce travel time between Ebonyi State and Abuja. Engr. Sunny Oche extended the goodwill of Benue State Governor, His Excellency Fr. Hyacinth Alia (PhD), to the people of Ebonyi State and praised Senator Nwebonyi’s initiative, encouraging recipients to utilize the resources effectively and commending the Senator’s commitment to his constituents. The Chairman also highlighted Benue State’s own investment in rural road infrastructure, emphasizing the synergy between the two states’ development projects. He further praised the Benue State Governor for his developmental achievements and expressed appreciation for his good job. Senator Nwebonyi also praised the Federal Government for another gigantic road project through Ebonyi to Abuja, describing the link road as a 300km legacy project in his honor by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in recognition of his office as Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate.
On the sidelines, Council Chairman Engr. Sunny Oche according to a report by his Principal Private secretary, Innocent Igelle met with key stakeholders to address security concerns along the Ebonyi-Benue border. He stressed the importance of maintaining the long-standing peace between the Izzi community and their Benue State hosts, condemning the actions of individuals attempting to incite conflict. He assured residents that Governor Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s administration remains committed to their development and will show zero tolerance for crime as no criminal elements will be spared.
The event drew a large crowd, including representatives from the Senate, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, and various community leaders.
