DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: NOVEMBER 1 GOD STILL JUDGES SINS (1) SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 19: 1 – 5, 9 – 10, 25

Spread the love

It appears as if God no longer sees sins as sins in the hearts of many these days. People are committing various kinds of sins believing God does not call anything sin these days. They assume so and teach others to believe in their views. Right from the time Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, Satan has sired the minds of many people against conscience of feeling bad when evil is committed. This fundamental recklessness in sins is growing every day. In the Old Testament days, sodomy was highly practiced amongst the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. The case got worst when God sent His Angels to destroy the two cities. Abraham pleaded on their behalf though. But they refused to repent. On seeing the Angels of God entering the house of Lot, the men rushed there to have carnal knowledge of these angelic men (Gen. 19: 3 – 5). Even though Lot offered them his daughters who were virgins, they refused.

As usual with people of reprobate minds, warnings against sins never deter them. Say anything about it, they will only laugh at you and call you names. Same was with the people in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. It could be likely Abraham warned them as well as Lot. Yet they were bent on their evil desires. It will be seen that any heart taken over by sinful spirit is bold in ignorance. These people told Lot to step aside or they will do the worst to him (Gen. 19: 9). At this point, the two Angels resumed their real nature as God’s Messengers. The judgment time began. The men, young and old became blind instantly (Gen. 19: 10). Satan always instigates human beings to keep daring God in all sorts of sins and atrocities till our chips will be downed. These men were rendered blind, decapacitated so that they could not move anymore. When Lot rushed out to tell his daughters’ fiancés what would soon happen, these men never had the power again. They were standing around Lot’s house till everyone in the house parked out. They were standing till God began to rain Surlphur and fire upon them.

We are today in the world that behaves as if God no longer punishes sins. Some Christians no longer preach that God punishes sins these days. We do things these days as if we have succeeded in blindfolding God. Many of us glory in wickedness and boast of who is there to say anything. Many of us have taken God’s silent for His weakness or His approving our sinful actions. But surely, God still judges sins. When God’s wrath started with Sodom and Gomorrah, He utterly destroyed everything and everybody including the neighbouring cities, who probably began to copy their sins (Gen. 19: 25). Today, this devotional is saying that our world must know that God still judges sins and punishes sinful people. The cloud of fire and Sulphur is thickening over our heads already. The prayer is, may God be merciful to those who harken to this message and will follow God’s ways like Lot and his family members did.

PRAYER:

MY FATHER AND MY GOD, do not allow me take your silent over sins being committed anyhow these days for your weakness. Grant me and fellow human beings repentant hearts to withdraw from sins in Jesus name.
